A special post from Team Will about why you should cast your vote for Will Smith in the Pixel Project Voters’ Choice campaign.
While Will Smith has donated over $1.3 million to various religious, civic and arts-based charities (1) and, along with his wife, created the Will and Jada Smith Foundation, his most impressive philanthropic trait is his dedication to promoting non-violence and his support for inner-city youth.
Will Smith has repeatedly emphasized his belief in maintaining “clean rap” and passionately believes that young, black men need positive influences—including the music they listen to.
“I try to speak my points of view about black America, and how I feel about black men and the role that black men should play in their lives with their children and in their lives with their women.” –Will Smith
During their thirteen-year marriage, the world has witnessed Will Smith continuously treat his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, with care and respect. Through his example, Will Smith has shown his fans his belief that black men must play a positive foundational role in the family and black community. His focus on the prevention of violence, to some degree, also aligns with the Pixel Project’s mission to end violence against women.
Research shows that in America, the women of black communities are more susceptible to violence, particularly due to socio-economic struggles.
By voting for Will Smith, you are voting for a remarkable man who practices what he preaches, and does not need convincing that the Pixel Project is a cause he can vouch for. By speaking out against Violence Against Women, Will Smith can play dual roles—a role model for the male community and for the black community.
