The Read For Pixels 10th Anniversary AMA Series

The Pixel Project is proud to present 15 special AMAs sessions on r/Fantasy (for Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror authors) and r/RomanceBooks (for Romance authors) throughout August and September 2023 as part of the 10th Anniversary of the Read For Pixels campaign.

The AMA sessions on r/Fantasy are also held to mark the 10th year of our long-running partnership with r/Fantasy.

Notes:

  • Posting Time: The time when the author posts their AMA introduction/bio
  • Start Time: The time when the author begins answering AMA questions.
  • “24 hours”: The author will log in every few hours over the 24 hours following the posting time to answer questions in batches.

Taking Part in Read For Pixels AMA Sessions

It’s easy peasy once you have a Reddit account:

  1. Go to r/Fantasy (for Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror AMAs) or r/RomanceBooks (for Romance AMAs). Log into your Reddit account there.
  2. Scroll down the list of forum topics until you see the AMA with the title that includes the author’s name and mentions The Pixel Project and/or Read For Pixels.
  3. Click to access the AMA, then type in your questions for the author. The author will answer your questions either during the designated start time starting 7pm CT/8pm ET (U.S. authors) or at intervals throughout the day (authors outside the U.S.).
  4. Due to the “just in time” nature of AMAs (which are posted the day of the event), please visit the sub-reddit (r/Fantasy or r/RomanceBooks) stated under the bios of participating Read For Pixels authors below after 10am U.S. Eastern Time on the day of the event to leave your questions for the author of the day.

Anna Smith Spark

Anne Bishop

ANNE BISHOP is a New York Times award-winning author of the Novels of the Others and the Black Jewels series. When she’s not writing, Anne enjoys gardening and reading–and pondering how to get her imaginary friends into more trouble. Her most recent novel is The Queen’s Price.

Carrie Vaughn

CARRIE VAUGHN’S work includes the Philip K. Dick Award winning novel Bannerless, the New York Times Bestselling Kitty Norville urban fantasy series, over twenty novels and upwards of 100 short stories, two of which have been finalists for the Hugo Award.  Her most recent novel, Questland, is about a high-tech LARP that goes horribly wrong and the literature professor who has to save the day. Charlaine Harris

A native of the Mississippi Delta, Charlaine Harris has lived her whole life in various southern states. Her first book, a mystery, was published in 1981. After that promising debut, her career meandered along until the success of the Sookie Stackhouse novels. Now all her books are in print, and she is a very happy camper. She is married and has three children.

Jim C. Hines

RJ Barker

RJ Barker is a critically acclaimed and award-winning author of fantasy fiction. He won the 2020 British Fantasy Society (BFS) Robert Holdstock award for Best Novel for his fourth novel, The Bone Ships. RJ lives in Leeds with his wife, son and a collection of questionable taxidermy, odd art, scary music and more books than they have room for. He grew up reading whatever he could get his hands on, and has always been ‘that one with the book in his pocket.’ Having played in rock bands before deciding he was a rubbish musician, RJ returned to his first love, fiction.

Sylvain Neuvel

SYLVAIN NEUVEL dropped out of high school at age 15. Along the way, he has been a journalist, worked in soil decontamination, sold ice cream in California, and furniture across Canada. He received a Ph.D. in linguistics from the University of Chicago. He taught linguistics in India, and worked as a software engineer in Montreal. He is also a certified translator, though he wishes he were an astronaut. He writes about aliens and giant robots as a blatant excuse to build action figures (for his son, of course). His debut, Sleeping Giants, was described by NPR as “one of the most promising series kickoffs in recent memory.”
