Regina-Yau

Regina Yau
Founder and President, The Pixel Project
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Regina Yau is a global citizen who synergises Western liberalism with Asian pragmatism and her own social conscience. The hallmark of Regina’s working style is her blend of inventive creativity, strategic thinking, practical execution, and sheer bloody-mindedness at getting the job done. All Regina’s pro bono non-profit projects, including The Pixel Project, are designed to hit a triple ‘bottomline’ of raising funds, raising awareness and raising volunteer manpower for causes.

Prior to The Pixel Project, she founded and organised the Time-and-Fund raising Charity Bachelor Auction (currently on hiatus) which raised an average of RM63,000 nett per year for Breast Cancer, 6-month publicity runs and over 200 hours of community service. Regina was nominated in the Education and Public Service category of The Malaysian Women’s Weekly’s “Great Women of Our Time” Awards 2008 for her innovative awareness-raising work for breast cancer through the auction.

Regina kick-started her career by coming in First Runners-up in PR Week UK’s James Maxwell Award 2004 when she impressed legendary PR guru, Lord Chadlington, founder of Shandwick, with her Public Relations strategy work. She has recently left her position as Associate Director of a Kuala Lumpur-based Integrated Communications consultancy to volunteer full-time on The Pixel Project.

Regina is a Rhodes Scholar with a long-standing commitment to gender issues and two post-graduate degrees from Oxford – an M.St in Women’s Studies and an M.St in Oriental Studies. She also has a First-Class BA (Hons) in English from Royal Holloway University of London.

Kym DeWitt is a California native with an extensive background working in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors.  She thrives on helping small and large teams reach their goals by nurturing individual talents, streamlining processes and developing inventive funding and fundraising solutions.

With a knack for stretching every dollar as far as it can possibly go, Kym was compelled to lend a helping hand to support The Pixel Project’s mission.  The opportunity to participate in such a monumental effort targeted at a very specific group of women in need, along with the opportunity to work with like-minded individuals, who each share a dedication to helping others, was simply too good to pass up.

Kym is a passionate individual with a Mathematics degree from Santa Clara University. She  is focused on keeping the numbers in line, while at the same time keeping the cause and the requirement for high social standards ever present to help guide The Pixel Project to success.

Bridget Hudacs
Project Secretary, The Pixel Project
Lancaster, Pennsylvania, United States of America

Like some of our volunteers, Bridget has not had first-hand experience with violence against women or with domestic violence. However, in hearing the story behind The Pixel Project, she was excited to pitch in and help get The Pixel Project off the ground. Knowing that the money raised through this project could maintain the only outlets some women have to get out of violent situations is truly inspiring, as is the challenge of seeing if we can mobilise the world to raise $1 million for this worthy cause.

Having years of project management experience, Bridget is no stranger to organization and getting people on the same page. She’s excited to lend these talents to The Pixel Project. When not working or volunteering for The Pixel Project, Bridget is an amateur musician, budding tap dancer and avid reader.

fida

Fida Amran
Assistant Secretary, The Pixel Project
Singapore, Singapore

Fida has worked in the exciting world of print advertising with the biggest and leading publishing firm in Singapore for over three years. Before that she spent over six years learning the ropes of statistics in market research. Yes, it took her that long to realise that numbers ain’t her thang.

Now experiencing an occupational hazard where watching TV is no longer fun (because commercial breaks are her biggest turn-offs), she has tried to get more involved in community projects where there’s no such thing as revenue and profit talks involved.

The Pixel Project is her first ever online campaign which combines two of her favourite things – charity and the Internet. What more can a geek ask for?

Annie-Varghese

Annie Varghese
Project Liaison
Women’s Aid Organisation
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Annie Varghese started with Women’s Aid Organisation in 1999 as the administrator and moved on to become the Projects & Administrative Manager in 2005. 2009 marks 10 years of Annie’s life in WAO. It has been a roller coaster ride for her coming from a corporate background into the NGO world where no two days are the same!

As the main focal point for fundraising, Annie has worked on various innovative projects. Year after year it has become an uphill task for her to come up with new ideas to raise funds. It is no wonder then that she had teamed up with Regina Yau to work on raising awareness and funds for WAO and NCADV with The Pixel Project.

Annie wears many hats; besides being a part of the core team for The Pixel Project, she is also an anchor for a morning breakfast show in Malaysia on national TV. In her spare time (if any) she emcees for events and launches. Her favourite, however, is doing commercials either on radio (voiceovers) or TV.

She hopes that The Pixel Project will get MEN around the world to stand up and champion the cause of Violence Against Women.
